Junior Catholic Daughters
Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas, otherwise known as JCDA, is a unique organization that is exclusively for Catholic girls, ages 6 through 18. Our Blessed Mother, Mary, is our Patroness.
The JCDA Program is based on four objectives:
- To promote the development of the whole person through programs of self-identity, personal growth, and peer group relationships;
- To promote service to others in the parish, community, and JCDA;
- To encourage spiritual growth by providing opportunities for personal prayer, liturgy, and ecumenical understanding; and
- To encourage programming that is open, flexible, and creative to current needs and concerns.
The JCDA members accept, act, and live the Christian message, in service to God through others in a variety of activities. The areas of involvement include Message, Service, and Community.
JCDA/Court Marion is based out of St. Mary Parish in Mt. Angel; however, qualifying girls from surrounding parishes are welcome to join JCDA/Court Marion. Each member is given a blue sash and earns project and activity pins to attach to her sash. Court activities include regular meetings; furthering religious education; involvement in Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy projects, such as the annual May Crowning, Adopt-a-Seminarian program, baby shower for the Fr. Taaffe Foundation, and nursing home assistance; scholarships; fundraisers. Court Marion also participates in State JCDA activities, including the State JCDA Conventions and State JCDA Fun Days.
